That's perfectly fine. I did too. I just thought there was a lot of wasted potential especially when the first 4 episodes were so strong

While in terms of overall plot and animation, there was plenty of potential, I feel that it was squandered thanks to terrible character development (starting with that lil weed Kirito). However, if that's how you feel, go ahead.

Regarding Aincrad, the first episodes were good, then it became a bit boring (for me). Most of all, I hated the ending of aincrad, that was senseless. Alfheim and ggo were only kirito beating up people. Also some aspects like asuna being still trapped in the vr world, the main role of suguha, the stereotyped bad guy of alfheim, etc. are too banal. In ggo they just tried to reset things by putting aside every character apart from kirito (that is pretty much what they’re doing in alicization right now). The plot of alicization is at least a bit more interesting and until now better than the first two seasons. In conclusion, I think sao, with an op protagonist and a banal and repetitive development, is liked mostly by children and younger teens, that appreciate this style

i enjoyed sao s1-2 but looking back i can't call it a good show in terms of characters and plot. The OST's and animation are god-tier though, and it's a good gateway anime for fantasy lovers that are starting out with anime

I think the first season was decent, the second one was hard to watch. If you like it good for you man, i think that the thing about sao that turned people off was kirito being so op what was not a problem to me since i enjoyed shows like hellsing, devil may cry , one punch man and more, that have really op mc, to me the narrative just becomes messy at some point i did not liked the direction they had go with Asuna, she was a good character than they turned her in the lady on distress of the show, that kinda ruined her character to me, the last villain was not how you do a psycho, i liked the aspect that he was obecessed with Asuna, but he didn't really had the motive to be that way, plus he took that obecession in a direction that was too over the top.

I liked SAO too, good fast paced sword fights and a video game theme made it awesome. (It had romance, while I didn't like the pairing I still found it nice.) It was a lot like Skyrim, the game I was playing at the time I first saw it. Now every time I play Skyrim I dual wield swords.

Cause people need a hatesink for some stupid reason. Also keep in mind that when Kawahara wrote SAO back in 2002 he was a rookie author. But instead of changing the story when it was adapted in the '10s he decided to adapt it as it was. Now he's much more experienced, thats why the Movie, Progressive and the Game timeline have better story.

Just like with for example ditf, it's not hated because it's bad, there are plenty bad series out there, it's hated because of fandom and people trying convince (or rather force) others that's it's some god-sent masterpiece
