go on an adventure, travel the world for a while, talk with strangers about stupid things, eat food you never eat before, watch movies you would have never watched, go see events you have never attended, like if you like rock go watch opera, go try skating, biking, hiking, walk under the rain, gaze at the stars at night, take a map, a real map on paper, if you don't have one start your adventure by searching one, toss a coin on the map, see where it land and go there if it's safe, join a circus or a theatre company, do bizzarre things, be mad, find the beauty in the smallest things, help others in need, cry, scream, ask for help, eat a fuckton of icecream, write a diary of your adventures and in 10 years publish it or open a youtube channel and stream your adventure, go and do random things, work with woods, build something that will last or build a sand castle, and when you'll be 90 years old you'll have the greatest stories to tell your nephews. Well watching comedy (mostly stand up) worked fine for me. Also occupied your mind with work or try to be busy and not getting carried away by negative thoughts. It will pass and after that you'll be even stronger mentally.

Find someone to talk to. Doesn't need to be a professional in the beginning, but someone that got your back and will stand by your side. Might be a parent, friend or SO. Tell them that you need some help going through this. It is easier if you have someone you can talk to. This is only for the first time. Ultimately you should find some professional help, but don't forget about your friends and don't get angry if they can't help you besides listening. It is tough for everyone involved, but keep fighting that bitch and don't give up. It's not as bad as your mind makes you believe.

First of all try to find a source of it. Was it with you always, or maybe it happened because of something happening in your life? Accept that you have right to feel sadness and misery in your life, that you don't have to be strong all the time. Embrace it as part of you. This way you shouldn't feel necessity to kill it fast with alcohol or drugs. If you want to fight it alone, start with small things. Create small objectives every now and then, then daily. Start with something like "throw away this box I have in garage for years" or "clean your desk", then you can make it bigger - "go for a walk without reason", "clean my room or house", "watch a movie". Objectives don't have to ambitious. It should make you feel better about yourself.

Go to a doctor/nurse/psychiatrist and next go and volunteer with homeless/old/handicapped people. The latter won't fix your depression, but it will remind you why life is worth living and when people depend on you the world looks very different.
